Onrus is a coastal village, part of the greater Hermanus and about 5 km from the center of Hermanus. It lies on a narrow coastal strip sandwiched between majestic mountains and the sea, surrounded by fynbos. The village has all the basic amenities like cafes, restaurants, chemist, butcher, laundries, gym facilities, dentist and doctors. This is a relaxing and welcoming holiday house for family and friends in the heart of Onrus.
The house is in a short cul d sac ending at the lagoon. A leisurely 10 minute walk or less than 1 km drive, takes you to the beach where there is parking. The lagoon mouth has lovely shallow waters for children to play in and the Milkwood Bistro is right on the beach for the thirsty and hungry. Coastal walks lead past tidal pools like Davies Pool where you can cool off on your way to Brekvis Baai in Vermont. Relax on a bench along the way and enjoy the view and fresh sea air.
It is ideal for those who enjoy more adventurous pursuits like surfing, diving and angling. Numerous mountain biking and cycling trails are laid out with competitions happening throughout the year. The area around Onrus and the salt water pan in Vermont teem with bird life. In August there is a culture festival in Onrus called the “Kalfie Fees” and in September/October Hermanus welcomes the whales with the popular “Whale Festival”. Between Onrus and Hermanus lie the “Hemel en Aarde Vallei” which is well known for producing award winning wines.
