The Hermanus Craft Beer Festival is back this year with a superb selection of breweries, yummy food and great music. We talked to Dirkie van der Merwe, one of the organisers to get some inside info.

This the second run, are there any surprises or changes to the format compared to last year?

We have decided to change the venue to the Hermanus Cricket Club. We are excited about the move, new breweries, great food vendors and music!

To those who haven’t been before, can you describe the vibe for them?

We love the family-friendly vibe Hermanus has, and we embrace that. We try to have something for everyone! Jumping castle for the little ones, some great food, excellent beer and of course some treats for your ears.

Let’s talk about the beer! How many breweries are participating and do you have a few favourites yourself?

We have 15 breweries this year. From old favourites like the local heavyweights, Birkenhead to new kids on the block, Fokof Lager, to the outside the box Dragon’s Ginger. And everything in between.

Good beer and good music go hand in hand. Who will be performing this year?

We start off the music with some kick ass vinyl records from Roastin’ Records, Sons of Settlers all the way from Berlin, Electro-swing gypsies Rumswinger always brings a massive vibe and Francios van Coke headlines the music this year in one of his only shows in the Overstrand this holiday season.

Right Porra, one last question. Do you have any inside tips or good advice to festival goers?

Yes, sure!
a) Come early to avoid the rush.
b) Bring cash to the show.
c ) If you are planning on having a few beers,  definitely book a taxi.
d)  Get your tickets at Quicknet.

Festival Date: 22 December 2017
Place: Hermanus Cricket Club
